Development Squad September Preview

Development Squad season kicks off on Sunday 13th September 2020.

Swindon Town Women FC Development Team head to Swindon Spitfires for the opening game of the 2020/21 South West Regional Women’s Football League Eastern Division this Sunday with many new faces likely to make their debuts for the club.

Sundays fixture will see two local teams face off following last seasons curtailed season with many faces across both teams having been previous team mates over the past few campaigns.

After travelling to Spitfires next up will see Laverstock & Ford FC head to Swindon for the first home game of the season with former Town first team management duo of Dan Jones & David Methven returning to SN1.

A second local derby awaits on match day three when the team head to the Webbswood Stadium to take on Swindon Supermarine who have former Town player Lauren Eagles in their rank.

Manager James Lally gave his thoughts on the impending kick off, “We are looking forward to carrying on where we left off last season and welcome some new faces into the squad.

“We have set both our team and personal aims for the season and we will be looking to challenge at the top of the league and progress in the cup whilst also trying to get as many of the players into the First Team as possible.

“The first three games are great to start with and although we got the better of all three teams last season anything can happen in derby games so we are not taking any fixture lightly. All the teams would have recruited players and also for Laverstock they have a new management team in place.

“Pre-season has seen the squad look impressive with the numerous new faces fitting in well but we still have a lot to improve on and cannot wait to get stuck into the September fixtures.”
